Sickness

In thee last two days I have been sick in a way that I don’t believe I have been since I was a kid. Unable to sleep and writhing in pain Monday night I then spent almost all of Tuesday sleeping in fits and starts. The whole experience was frightening in its suddeness and intensity but it was a great opportunity for me to reflect on the inevitability of sickness and the fragility of health. We truly never know which sickness, cold, ache or fever may be the end of us so let us make haste to gain what wisdom we can in this life.

Maybe you needed time to contemplate. I would like to know where to find the compassion for your best friends through the people you consider to be Juan and Juanita [Pema Chodron]. I know i have the book, but cannot remember where the meditation is. I’m trying to send compassion to me, you and your wife. ciao, ciao.

With my injuries and chronic pain, I empathize with your situation. It can be horribly disorienting in addition to the feelings and I hope that your situation improves very soon. May it pass quickly that, while you learn and become mindful of what you need, that you quickly transmute that dukkha into peace of mind and body. I’ll be keeping you in mind the next week or so when I chant my mantras and dharani. I truly hope you feel well soon. Namaste.
