Buddha Vacana ~ An Ill-Directed Mind

100. Whatever harm an enemy can do to an enemy,
Or a hater to a hater,
An ill-directed mind
Causes oneself even greater harm.

No mother or father
Or any other kin
Can do greater good for oneself
Then a well-directed mind.

Dhammapada 42-43

This morning my mind was aflame with anger and irritation as I hurried through the morning routine with my children. Unfortunately, my wife was a mirror for the flames and we succeeded only in raising the temperature until the whole household was ablaze. And why did this happen today? Although I can’t be sure I know that my failure to sit this morning played a role in my inability to calm my mind and heart in the face of irritation and the stress of travelling (we’re going to Jamaica to visit my step-mother today).

Well, time is short and I have to go but wishing all of you the best.
